From timeless silhouettes to everyday luxuries, Lil Holcombe of Harry and Kit shares the style staples she can’t live without, the pieces that hold stories, and the art of surrounding yourself with beauty.

MY STYLE, DEFINED

Layered, soulful, and grounded in natural materials. I’m drawn to pieces that tell a story - weathered timber, time-worn brass, handwoven textiles (love everything Eadie). I love the contrast of rustic and refined: an antique Indian console beside a sleek linen sofa, or Handmade Japanese pottery on a vintage Indian table. Every item in my home has been chosen with purpose. My style is less about trends and more about timelessness, creating spaces that feel collected, comforting, and quietly luxurious.

THE FIRST PIECE I FELL IN LOVE WITH

I can’t go past an aged elm piece. I have two scholar bench seats, one in my room and one of my sons rooms at the end of the beds. Imperfect, handmade, and full of character. It was one of the first pieces I sourced when I started Harry and Kit. Every time I walk past it, I’m reminded that good design doesn’t shout, it whispers.

THE PIECE THAT SPARKS JOY EVERY TIME

Our vintage Indian dining table, found in Rajasthan, is my constant source of inspiration. It’s more than furniture, it’s a piece of cultural history. Traditionally used as both a table and a daybed, it carries the warmth of communal meals and slow afternoons. The carved details, the patina of time. It reminds me daily that beauty lies in both form and function, and that the best pieces hold stories within their grain.

THE PIECE I’LL PASS DOWN ONE DAY

My Indian dowry chest, it predates Harry and Kit and holds a special place in my heart. I found it on Gumtree, of all places, from a woman on the Gold Coast who shared my obsession with antique pieces. She welcomed me into her home, told me stories about this chest and the other treasures she’d collected over the years. That encounter felt like fate. The chest itself is exquisite, layered with history, tradition, and craftsmanship but it’s also a symbol of passion, connection, and the spark that eventually became Harry and Kit. I can’t imagine ever parting with it, except to pass it on.

A DESIGNER I ALWAYS RETURN TO

Melissa Penfold, without question. Her philosophy blends timeless style with practical elegance, and she has an uncanny way of making a space feel both refined and deeply lived-in. Her book Natural Living by Design is full of wisdom I return to again and again, like the power of natural materials to calm the senses, the importance of negative space in creating harmony, and her golden rule: if something doesn’t improve a room, it doesn’t belong in it. Her work is a masterclass in how to live beautifully, effortlessly.

MY LAST MEMORABLE BUY

A set of Japanese ceramics to update my everyday crockery. There’s something so quietly powerful about their beauty, imperfectly perfect forms, subtle glazes, and that hand-thrown texture that makes even a simple cup of tea feel like a ritual. They’re organic, soulful, and surprisingly durable. I love how they balance elegance with practicality. Proof that the everyday can still
be extraordinary.

THE BEST PIECE OF STYLE ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED

“If it doesn’t bring you joy or tell your story, let it go.” I apply that to
everything—my wardrobe, my home, my life.
