Choosing cushions can sometimes seem like a daunting task, and the choices can seem overwhelming. Whether it be for the lounge room or your bedroom, cushions are a great way to give your space a mini makeover. Cushions have the ability to create a cosy ambience or also add a some colour and texture to your space.
Here are a few of our basic tips to follow to get you started.
1. Select a colour that fits in with the rest of your room - have a look around at the colours currently in your space and use these to help you choose a colour guide. Using the colour of your furniture also is a great way to help choose a colour palette. Dark woods pair well with cool tones and light woods look best with warmer tones.
2. Use a variety of cushion shapes - select a variation of cushion sizes to create a layered effect. Start with bigger cushions at the back and smaller sizes at the front. A good start is to select two larger solid coloured cushions to start in the back corners, and then build forward from there.
3. Make use of colours, prints and textures - creating a group of cushions with the same colour palette but different prints and patterns is a great way to achieve cohesion. For example if you are choosing to go for blue tones, choose 3 cushions that carry a similar colour in multiple sizes and group together.
4. Compliment your cushions with a throw - you can incorporate another level of texture by accessorising with a throw. Using a throw with noticeable details will add extra dimension to your space. Choose one that compliments the colour of your cushions.
5. Update your cushions by moving them around to different areas of your house - you can achieve a new space by swapping out your bedroom cushions with your cushions in your lounge room. This helps create a whole new look in your home, while also letting you enjoy your cushions in different areas of your house.
