Our Solid Antique Elm Basins was a versatile and durable household item with both practical and aesthetic uses in traditional Chinese life. Known for its strong, flexible, and water-resistant qualities, Chinese elm wood (known as Ulmus pumila) has been used for centuries in crafting functional objects like basins, tubs, and bowls. There were used within the household for bathing and doing laundry to food preparation, particularly for tasks that involved soaking, mixing, or washing food ingredients like rice, wheat or barley. But the most common use of elm wood basins was for personal bathing, especially in rural or less-developed areas. These basins, often large and deep, could be filled with warm water for bathing or washing the body.
The unique characteristics of elm wood make each basin truly unique, no two are the same, with their own distinct patterns, textures and imperfections.

Large Homewares: $39.95
Furniture & Heavy Items: If you are ordering a Furniture or Heavy piece you will not be able to complete your check out as we will need to provide a shipping quote beforehand. We will try our best to have heavier items and furniture pieces shipped Australia wide where possible. Clothing: $11.90 or FREE for orders over $200.
