We love our fashion at Harry and Kit and also love getting to know the brands we work with. So we wanted to introduce you to the amazing designer behind fashion label Wild Horses, Natalie Donovan and hear all about the inspiration behind the latest Wild Horses Spring Collection.
Wild Horses the Label started back in 2012, tell us how it all began?
I had just finished studying Fashion full time at TAFE and really wanted to do my own business of some sort. I first started off hand making my own beaded jewellery which turned out to be quite popular.. but because I was hand beading them one by one, I felt I needed to out source my creative ideas and that’s when the clothing brand was born - Wild Horses Label.
Where do you draw your Inspiration from when designing your collections?
Being a mum of 4, I don’t have much time getting dressed in the morning, and I really don’t have the mental space to style something last minute. So I tend to design pieces that are easy to wear, easy to dress up or down for any occasion and functional and appropriate for parenting in!
I design a lot of shirt, billowy dresses, garments with pockets in - always!!! And easy throw on styled designs with beautiful fabrics that are wash and wear proof!
Is there a particular material you enjoy working with the most?
Most definitely linen. I love the look and feel it has and it just makes anyone look so effortlessly chic and ‘put together’. It’s natural fibre and washes well and it lasts the longest than most fabrics and to top it off, it’s sustainable!
We would love to hear the story behind your latest Spring Collection?
I wanted to create a chic effortless summery resort vibe, with the combination of our exclusive print and some textural fabrics we’ve chosen. I feel like it signifies being on holiday all year round and going from beach to bar which means you don’t have to pack so many outfits when your on vacation. The colour palette is neutral and earthy which most people can wear and it’s an easy insert into your existing wardrobe.
How do you want women to feel when wearing Wild Horses pieces?
I hope they feel as beautiful as they look on the inside and out! We pride ourselves on the quality of our garments and we hope the wearer can appreciate the finishes (sewing techniques) whilst in Wild Horses.
What is your favourite piece in the collection?
My fave piece is the Ballerina Maxi in our Moss Print! It’s so easy to wear, elastic shirring bodice (perf for expecting mamas and mamas who BF) comfortable, cute puffy balloons sleeves and a flowing maxi skirt with side splits that swish as you walk.
What can we expect in your Summer Range?
Our Summer Range is going back to basics with ivory linens in functional designs and our crochet knit pieces that are elegantly styled for your next trip to somewhere exotic.
