Vintage Chinese Alter Table
Sourced from Shandong Province, China, this 150+ year-old Chinese altar table was originally made for use within the home as a place for honouring ancestors and displaying offerings. Its long, narrow form and elevated height are characteristic of furniture designed for this ceremonial role, giving the piece a sense of history that extends well beyond its beautifully aged surface.
Crafted from pine, the table has developed a softly timeworn patina over generations, while the carved cupboard and drawer fronts bring subtle pattern to its restrained form. At just 35cm deep, it now lends itself beautifully to an entry, hallway or living space, where it can be layered with artwork, ceramics and collected objects while retaining a quiet connection to its original life.
